Alternatively, people are going for an LED grow lighting option. Sadly, most of them tend to neglect using full spectrum which is important for growing plants through a natural life cycle.

  •  Blue – blue LED lights are a good choice for vegetative growth which creates tall and leafy plants. However, a blue light isn’t very helpful during flowering and budding phase not to mention that it can cause bushy plants with minimal buds.
  • Red – as compared to blue light, red LED lights in the 600-640 nm range can stimulate flowering and budding. Just like how blue light can’t be of any help during the flowering phase, too much red light won’t help during your plants’ vegetative growth phase and could only lead to unhealthy plants.
  • Ultraviolet UV light isn’t commonly used in most LED grows, but it is something which is worth experimenting with. Moreover, research has shown that it could be beneficial if you use UV light in short bursts especially when you are planning to increase your yield.
  • Whitewhite LED lights are beneficial in a way that it allows you to see inside of your grow room. If you only have red and blue LED grow lights in your growing area, you will find it really hard to notice any problems accurately and resolve them.

The Correct Spectrum Combination

You have to make sure that your plants are provided with the right combination of light in order to ensure their proper growth and health. Outdoor plants have the benefit of getting all the right wavelengths they need. Don’t worry, though. You can simply replicate that environment indoors.

In order to obtain the optimum ratio of different colors, you should make sure that the following are present in your panel:

  •  55% red LEDs at 660nm
  • 20% red LEDs at 630nm
  • 15% blue LEDs at 470nm
  • 10% blue LEDs at 425nm

There are lots of indoor growers who would only use one set of red and blue LED grow lights. However, this practice is basically lacking in the ability to give the full range of light which plants require. In an outdoor grow environment, the type of light the plants receive normally varies and shifts as days and months pass by. Imitating that cycle inside of your indoor grow room is an important part for a successful harvest.
